Hi,
I'm Marty.

You might have seen me around your local Stop & Shop (I’m hard to miss!) but haven’t had a chance to make my acquaintance. There’s no need to be shy—stop by, say hello and take a picture with me. In the meantime, I want to tell you a little more about myself.

I’m all about

safety.

On average, I spot nearly 40 spills or other potential hazards in each store every day. When I find a hazard, I alert Stop & Shop associates and stay nearby until it’s cleaned up.

I’m from

Kentucky.

My creator Badger Technologies is based in Nicholasville, KY.

I come from a

big family.

I have over 300 cousins. You can find us at Stop & Shop stores throughout the Northeast. Together, we traveled nearly 250,000 miles in our first year.

I’m

bilingual.

If I spot a hazard, you’ll hear me say “Caution, hazard detected” in both English and Spanish.

Learn more about me

Do you take videos of customers?

No, I have cameras that allow me to take still photographs of store floors. These images are used only to identify spills or other potential hazards.

Do you replace human Stop & Shop associates?

No, my job is to support the store team. I scan the stores for hazards about 12 times a day, 7 days a week, allowing Stop & Shop associates to focus instead on serving our customers.

Do you follow customers around the store?

No. I actually have sensors that can detect motion, so rest assured, I will never bump into you! I do my best to stay out of the way, and my path around each store is optimized based on customer traffic flow.

Why don’t I see you every time I’m at the store?

If you don’t see me, chances are I’m at my charging station. I’m a power napper.

Are your big eyes actually cameras?

The googly eyes are just for my good looks. They serve no purpose other than that.

Do you ever leave the store?

Yes, I will go visit local schools to help drive interest in STEM education.

Do you monitor for theft or other potential security threats?

No, I’m not a crime fighter. Spills and hazards are my specialty.

What’s your favorite dance move?

The robot, naturally.
